Micro Weddings, Minimonies and Elopements: adding florals into your smaller celebration

For obvious reasons, many couples are choosing to have scaled-down celebrations instead of more extravagant, larger gatherings. But small doesn’t have to mean less special! Often, I see that couples are mourning the loss of certain big celebration must-haves. But shifting your mindset from one of loss to one of possibility is key in dealing with these emotions. Just think about what you can go with a smaller guest count!

Maybe it’s about focusing in on special details, like opting for a really luxe invitation suite, since you won’t be sending as many, it becomes more affordable! Or doing a really special floral installation! As a florist, I obviously think flowers can be a super special element to your smaller celebration, especially as the landscape of events is shifting and so many other elements that go into making a wedding day unique are being left out of the occasion. One great place to splurge on florals is the bridal bouquet. Since your bridal party will not be as large, you can allocate some of the bridesmaids bouquet budget into a super lush, bountiful bouquet for you! Splurge on those fluffy peonies or exquisite dahlias or dramatic orchids!

However, many couples are opting for á la carte florals for smaller celebrations: a bouquet & a boutonniere plus a centerpiece or two. But couples shouldn’t feel as though they are limited to just those offerings. Splashing out on a floral arch or chuppa can add so much beauty to your ceremony, or if your event is outdoors, a ground installation is a beautiful addition. Or if you’re indoors, a sprawling mantlepiece installation can be a dramatic statement.

Its good to have a discussion with your florist about what is safely possible to produce during this time. We use standard PPE while working on projects and when we’re needed on site, we ask our clients to follow appropriate social distancing, and we do the same.

In the end, it’s not about having a better Instagram moment that’s better than your friend’s weddings. It’s about creating extra special moments and details that are truly memorable, that set the stage for even better days to come.
